Low Back Pain Physical Therapy in Cornelius, NC

Your Back Doesn't Have to Run the Show

People come to us when low back pain keeps interrupting their training, rounds of golf, or just getting through the day without bracing or compensating. We take a thorough look at how you move, identify what is actually driving the problem, and build a hands-on plan to address it at the source — one-on-one, for a full hour, every session.

Why Low Back Pain Keeps Coming Back

Rest is not enough

Taking time off may quiet the symptoms, but the underlying movement problem stays in place. Without addressing what is actually driving the pain, it comes back the moment you push your body again — whether that is the next round, the next workout, or the next long drive.

Stretching and ice are keeping you in a cycle

Managing symptoms gets you through the day but does not solve the problem. Without a targeted plan to address the mechanical issue at the root, most people plateau on symptom management and never fully get back to the activities they want to do.

Generic PT was not built for active adults

Short sessions with rotating clinicians and cookie-cutter exercise programs rarely produce lasting results for people with real goals. You need a thorough evaluation and a progressive plan built around your body, your lifestyle, and what you are trying to get back to.

Common Conditions We Treat

Low Back Issues We Work With

People come to us with a wide range of low back presentations — from acute flare-ups to recurring issues that keep getting in the way of training, golf, and everyday life. These are the most common patterns we address at Par Performance PT.

Recurring Low Back Pain - Persistent aching or stiffness that keeps flaring up with activity, training, or prolonged sitting and has not responded to rest alone.

Sciatica and Radiating Leg Symptoms - Sharp, shooting, or burning pain that travels from the low back into the glute, hamstring, or lower leg with certain positions or movements.

Disc-Related Back Issues - Pain or neurological symptoms associated with disc involvement that limit movement, training, or the ability to sit or stand comfortably for any length of time.

Acute Back Flare-Ups - Sudden onset of severe low back pain that locks you up and makes movement, bending, or everyday tasks feel impossible until it settles.

Back Pain Limiting Golf or Sport - Low back stiffness or pain that interrupts your swing, affects your game, or makes training inconsistent round after round.

SI Joint and Pelvic Pain - Discomfort at the base of the spine or through the pelvis that shows up during loading, transitions, or extended activity.

Postural and Overuse Back Pain - Low back discomfort that builds throughout the day from prolonged desk work, repetitive loading, or movement patterns that have gradually worn down tolerance.

Post-Surgical Low Back Recovery - One-on-one rehab after lumbar procedures focused on rebuilding movement quality, core control, and the strength needed to return to full activity.

What Patients Say About Their Recovery

Hear from active adults and golfers across the Lake Norman area who came in with persistent low back issues and found a plan that actually worked.

Josh was really great to work with! Was able to swing with no more back pain for the whole season!
JAY JAY
Josh has been fantastic to work with. He has been able to alleviate lower back and hip pain through stretching and dry needling sessions. More importantly, he provides a very effective at-home exercise plan between visits to strengthen affected muscles. As a golfer, he has a deep understanding of the golf swing and the key muscle groups that need development for performance improvement. Highly recommended Josh for game improvement!!!
Scott Goodelle
Dr. Joshua is great! He really takes the time to listen, explain what’s going on, and tailor each session to your needs. You can tell he genuinely cares about helping you feel and move better. I’ve made so much progress since my first session. Highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions people most often ask before starting low back PT at Par Performance PT.

Do I need a referral to start low back PT?

No referral is required. North Carolina allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can book a discovery call without seeing a physician first. We will evaluate your low back, help you understand what is driving the problem, and walk you through what a realistic plan looks like for your specific situation.

How is this different from what I've already tried?

Most people who come to us have already tried rest, stretching, or general exercise and gotten partial or temporary relief. The difference is that we start with a thorough evaluation to identify the specific movement and loading issues driving your symptoms — and build a targeted, progressive plan around those findings instead of applying a standard protocol.

Will I need imaging or a diagnosis before my first visit?

No imaging or prior diagnosis is required. We do a thorough movement-based evaluation at your first visit to assess what is actually happening in your spine, hips, and surrounding structures. If we identify anything that warrants further workup or a physician consultation, we will tell you honestly and help point you in the right direction.

Why choose cash-based low back PT?

Cash-based care means every session is a full hour, one-on-one, with the same clinician every time. There are no handoffs to aides, no billing code constraints on what we do in a session, and no pressure to discharge you before you are actually ready. We accept HSA and FSA payments and can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits.

How long does low back PT typically take?

Timeline varies depending on how long the issue has been present, whether it is acute or recurring, and what your goals are. After your evaluation, we will give you a realistic picture of how many sessions to expect and what the progression looks like — including when you can expect to be discharged and managing independently at full activity.
